An alleged armed robber was shot dead when he attempted to rob a foreigners store in Atteridgeville on Monday morning.

One man entered the shop in Maubane Street at about 10:20am, The men looted the store and took an undisclosed amount of goods, the suspects tried to run away.

The store owner allegedly grabbed his gun and fired shots at the suspect, fatally wounding him and killing him on the spot.

Police arrived at the scene.

A case of murder was subsequently registered against the store owner.
