WHEN WE CREATE SAFE SPACES, YOUNG PEOPLE DON'T JUST SPEAK... THEY BEGIN TO HEAL.πŸŒˆπŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ—οΈ

Yesterday at Orbit TVET College – Rustenburg Campus, we witnessed something that statistics and policies can never fully capture.

Our panel discussion was more than a conversation. It became a space where young LGBTQIA+ people and allies found the courage to speak their truths, reflect on their identities, and share the realities they carry every day.πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆπŸ³οΈβ€βš§οΈβ€οΈ

We spoke honestly about identity, gender and sexual orientation, and how these continue to shape access to education, employment, healthcare, belonging and, most importantly, safety. We heard stories of resilience, fear, rejection, hope and courage. Some moments were difficult. Some were emotional. But every story reminded us why these conversations cannot remain hidden.

What stood out most was the willingness of our panelists to be vulnerable. They didn't speak from theoryβ€”they spoke from lived experience. They reminded us that behind every policy is a person, behind every statistic is a life, and behind every act of inclusion is someone who finally feels seen.β€οΈπŸ³οΈβ€βš§οΈπŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆ

To every student who listened with an open heart, asked thoughtful questions and chose empathy over judgementβ€”thank you. You are helping build campuses where everyone belongs.

This is what Be Free To Be You is about: creating spaces where no one has to apologise for existing.

Together, we continue to learn, challenge harmful narratives and build a future where every young person can live, study and dream freely.πŸ³οΈβ€βš§οΈπŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆβ€οΈ

OUR IDENTITIES SHOULD NEVER COST US OUR FUTURE. JOIN THE CONVERSATION THAT MATTERS.πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ–€

Today, we gather for more than a panel discussion.

We gather because too many young people still carry the weight of rejection, discrimination and violence simply for being who they are. We gather because no one should have to choose between living authentically and living safely.πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆπŸ³οΈβ€βš§οΈ

The 3rd Annual Be Free To Be You Campaign continues today with a powerful conversation on economic inclusion, human rights and dignity. Together, we will unpack the realities facing LGBTQIA+ people in our communities while exploring practical solutions that create opportunities, challenge inequality and build a future where everyone belongs.πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆπŸ³οΈβ€βš§οΈ

This Black Thursday, we also stand in solidarity with all survivors of gender-based violence and remember that justice, safety and inclusion are causes that belong to all of us.

If you believe every young person deserves the freedom to learn, work, dream and thrive without fear, then this conversation is for you.

Come. Listen. Learn. Challenge. Stand with us.

Together, let's build communities where our identities never cost us safety, opportunity or hope.πŸ³οΈβ€βš§οΈπŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆ
