Royal Bafokeng Nation - Traditional Council Elections

The Royal Bafokeng Nation (RBN) would like to clarify and respond to queries regarding a social media issued by the North West Provincial Government, which invites community members to register to vote in the traditional council elections.

The RBN has held successive and independent traditional council elections, most recently in 2017. The next traditional council elections will be overseen by the North West Provincial Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) across all 56 traditional communities in the province, including the RBN.

Following engagements, the North West Provincial Government has decided not to use current regulations or pass new rules and has agreed that only members of traditional communities may participate in the forthcoming traditional council elections in their respective communities.

RBN, as with many other traditional communities in North West Province, will participate in the traditional council elections and members of RBN who are eligible to vote are encouraged to register to vote.

We have noted that the timeframe for registration has lapsed but members of Morafe are still encouraged to approach their respective Makgotla and register.
