Today, the Letaba FPA Base was filled with excitement as we welcomed 19 eager learners and 5 educators from Little Stars Academy for a fun and educational fire awareness visit!

Our young visitors learned all about fire safety, how to keep themselves safe around fires, and the important role firefighters play in protecting our communities. They got an up-close look at firefighters dressing in their protective gear, explored the equipment used to fight fires, and discovered how teamwork helps keep everyone safe during emergencies.

One of the highlights of the day was climbing inside the Huey firefighting helicopter and seeing the spotter aircraft used to detect and monitor fires from the sky! 🚁✈️

A huge thank you to the incredible Letaba FPA firefighting team, the assistant ground crew team, and Modjadjiskloof Fire & Rescue for sharing their knowledge and passion with our future fire safety ambassadors.

We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to SAFcol for providing the awareness materials that help make these educational visits so meaningful.
By teaching children about fire safety today, we're helping build safer communities for tomorrow. ❤️🔥

🔥 Fire Preparedness is More Than Good Practice. It's a Legal Responsibility 🔥

As we move deeper into the fire season, it is important for every landowner to remember that preparing to contain and suppress veldfires is not optional, it is a legal requirement.

Effective fire preparedness helps to:

✅ Reduce the risk of injuries and fatalities
✅ Protect homes, farms, businesses and critical infrastructure
✅ Minimise costly repairs and replacement expenses after a fire
✅ Improve the ability to respond quickly when fires occur
✅ Maintain positive relationships between neighbours and communities

When everyone takes responsibility for fire readiness, the entire community becomes safer and more resilient.

Now is the time to assess your firebreaks, firefighting equipment, water points, access routes and emergency response plans.

Preparation today can prevent disaster tomorrow.

Together, we can reduce the impact of veldfires and protect lives, livelihoods and the environment.
