Since the circulation of the EWS WATER RATIONING PLAN for the Northern Region, there have been a few questions that have been asked, here are the more common ones:

Q - FROM 3PM TO 6AM THE NEXT MORNING WE WILL HAVE NO WATER?

A - the valves from the various reservoirs (per the previously circulated list) will be opened at 6am and closed at 3pm.

This means that water supply will be provided from approximately 6am (might be a little longer due to the distance you reside from the reservoir and the topography/gradient of land as water needs time to travel from the reservoir to you).

At 3pm when the valves are closed, it does not automatically mean your water will stop. There will still be water inside the system which will be available to residents until it is depleted (supply vs demand).

Q - WILL IT BE EVERY DAY?

A - Yes, until such time as water supply has been reinstated by Umgeni Water, the water rationing plan will remain in place.

Q - SO THIS IS IN RESULT OF THE MAJOR AQUEDUCT ISSUES CAUSED BY THE FLOODS?

A - Yes. 2 of the 4 aqueducts that carry water from Umgeni Water (the supplier) to eThekwini (the consumer) were compromised during last weeks floods which has meant that there is a vastly reduced supply of water into the city.

To compensate for the loss of supply, water rationing has needed to be implemented.

Q - WHAT ARE THE CUT OFF TIMES FOR MY AREA?

Per the schedule all of the reservoirs in the northern region will be opened at 6am and closed at 3pm - please see response to point one above for further details.

Q - HOW LONG WILL THIS SYSTEM BE IMPLEMENTED FOR?

Until water supply has resumed from Umgeni Water. At this point still no indication from them the extent of the damage, the cost and duration of the repairs.

Q - DO YOU HAVE THE SCHEDULE FOR AREAS OUTSIDE OF THE NORTHERN REGION?
