Check this out! It will probably make you laugh ... but scenes like this (which happen daily) are infuriating legitimate and law-abiding transport operators. While these vehicles pass through weighbridges (we are not saying that this driver paid a bribe but we are told bribes are the order of the day), truck operators are punished if they're 1 kg overweight. “This happens all the time. If you want proof, go to the Mantsole weighbridge in Limpopo, and monitor the number of overloaded small vehicles (bakkies and taxis with trailers),” one transport operator told us. “Laws are being broken on a daily basis – and nothing gets done about it. However, Lord help us if we are 1 kg over on one of our trucks.” He adds that vehicles like this are running “all over Africa”. “The best place to nail these vehicles would be at the border – but those responsible for law enforcement are corrupt,” he notes. What a sorry situation!
