Weigh in for our Project Doe...!! (Done on 15/10/25)
According to my growth weight monitoring, this Doe was always slightly shy of the weight milestones at 4weeks & 8weeks but growth rate became quite sluggish as it grew..

What is the solution?

Breeding it to our best and Excellent Buck; for more genetic diversity - monitor and evaluate kits, choose the best and cull the rest ✅

Will be breeding it with one of our Bucks that’s above 4.5kg... 😊 Check photo in the comment section

💡When Chocolate 🍫 pops up; from a Line of New Zealand Reds..

Chocolate color in rabbits comes from the “b” gene, which is a recessive version of the black gene (B).

B = black pigment (normal in New Zealand Reds)

b = chocolate pigment (recessive)

👉New Zealand Reds genetically carry BB (pure black pigment base) or Bb (carry chocolate but don’t show it).
👉If both parents carry the recessive chocolate gene (Bb), there’s a 1 in 4 chance that a kit will be bb — and show chocolate color.

💡Color expression with the Red coat

New Zealand Reds are based on the agouti (A_) pattern with rufus modifiers that give the red/orange tone.
When the base black (B) changes to chocolate (b), it turns the coat softer, milk-chocolate brown instead of red/orange — which is why they looks chocolate.
