I watched a clip yesterday where Esther Phiri was explaining how she was disqualified from boxing because she was given fake HIV positive results. Someone asked why they disqualified her for being HIV positive. I explained that boxing involves cuts and bleeding so that would expose the opponent to infection. Someone commented and said as long as she is U=U she can't infect anyone. Well, that is not entirely true. U=U SPECIFICALLY applies to sexual transmission and not other modes of transmission. That's why people living with HIV can't donate blood, be an organ donor, share needles e.t.c. Despite having an Undetectable viral load, there are still traces of the virus in the body. Only they are too few to create an infection through sexual transmission. So it was not discrimination, it was a safety measure. Good morning 🌄
