Seeing and hearing.
The eyes of an eagle are very sharp, powerful, and can see from afar just as its ears can pick up sounds from afar. Certain eagles are able to hear up to 8 kilometers away. An eagle has perfect hearing and listening capability.
However an eagle relies more on its eyes than its ears. An eagle uses what it has seen to analyse more accurately what it is hearing. In comparison to the eyes, the ears of an eagle are not as powerful, even though they are more powerful than the ears of most humans.
The ears of an eagle are covered with feathers, which makes them difficult for people to see. This is the reason why some people have often assumed that an eagle can’t hear. Feathers also serve as the filter to the ears, these tiny feathers help the eagle in filtering out the sounds, so as to be able to identify what it is hearing.
In the same way, as there is a correlation between what an eagle sees and hears, there is also a correlation between what we can see and hear in the spirit. God has endowed us with the ability to see and hear clearly from Him, when we tune in to the Holy Spirit.
Therefore we need to invest in paying attention to what see, hear and reading in the scripture .
We need to hold on to what is written more than what is said, because what is written is more reliable than what we hear. The issue here is that the realm of the spirit is pronged to being manipulated by the devil; because he is a spirit being also, who has the ability to falsify spiritual truth, in order to deceive the people of God. In fact, the scripture warned us about this, it tells us that he masquerades as an angel of light, like a roaring lion. Therefore comprehension of the things of the spirit requires a very accurate understanding of the written word of God. .
It is our responsibility in the coming year to pray daily for the understanding of spiritual truth, allowing God through His Spirit to reveal truth to us. While praying will help us in searching out spiritual truth, the written word of God will establish us in such truth. In other words, we need our spiritual eyes of understanding to be able to see through the scriptures as well as our listening ear of the spirit to help us in knowing the mind of the Father.
Additionally, we shall need filters that will help us to filter out what we see and hear . The devil is very good at disrupting or distorting what a Child of God is listening to from the Lord.
As we read the Word and pray in the Spirit our spirit man will be able to grasp the mind of God and connect us to spirituald. God’s written word connects us with spiritual realities. Faith in God’s word or promises helps us to stay connected with God by faith.
Christian who takes the eyes and ears away from God’s word will be lost in the spiritual world. We have to ensure that our spiritual eyes and ears are sharp in order not to miss out on spiritual truths, as to be able to soar higher in God’s purpose on a daily basis.
Vision is not only defined as the ability to see but is is also the ability to think about or plan the future with imagination or wisdom.
To be able to soar like an eagle requires have the eye of an eagle.
Eagles have visual acuity far superior to most animals, including humans
The two fovea in the retina produces the sharpest image. It has five times more sensory cells than a human being, gives it the ability to see sharply and helps it focus on its prey even while it is still high up in the air. It estimated that an eagle can see prey when it is in the air at height of 198 meters, and 3km far ahead.
The eagle has three eyelids, the third inner eyelid is known as the nictitating membranes. This eyelid is thin, translucent and acts like a windshield wiper, sweeping across the bird's eye from side to side. It automatically slides across the eye every three to four seconds, keeping debris from being lodged in the sensitive tissue. The nictitating membrane can be closed for protection without affecting the eagle's vision. Eagles voluntarily dilate and constrict their pupils, change the curvature of the cornea as way of focusing near and far.
Eagles sees further into the red range at one end of the color spectrum, and all the way into the ultraviolet range at the other side. The eagles eye has droplets of oil dispersed into the cone photoreceptors in hues that filter and enhance color. These oil droplets intercept light, modifying its intensity and spectrum, to protect the eyes from free-radical damage. Eagles see colors more vivid than we do, they can discriminate more between shades.l hence allowing an eagle to see an absolutely beautiful world.
What can learn from an eagle's ability to see? .
In the coming year we need to intentionally and deliberately depending on the Holy Spirit. As we gilded and soar through the storms, we should close our natural eyes and leave the eyes of the Spirit open. Using the eye of the Spirit what we will see will be totally different from what the world sees. To soar high we have no choice but put away people, things that would distract us, have intense focus on purpose. There will be times when we will have to flying alone.
When our focus is on God and not the storm, we will see the beauty, the majesty and splendour of our God.
