The “Critical Minerals in Zambia: Future Opportunities” launch was held on Wednesday, 25 February 2026 at Radisson Blu Lusaka, bringing together stakeholders from the Geological Survey Department of Zambia, the British Geological Survey (BGS), government representatives, and members of the mineral exploration sector.
The event marked the official launch of the “Critical Minerals Potential of Zambia” guide, developed through collaboration between the Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development-Zambia Geological Survey Department and the British Geological Survey, with support from the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO).
The publication highlights Zambia’s potential in key critical minerals such as copper, cobalt, lithium, graphite, nickel and rare earth elements, which are essential for modern technologies and the global energy transition. The guide provides valuable geological insights to support investment, exploration and informed policy decisions in Zambia’s growing critical minerals sector.

On Friday, 19th September 2025, the Geological Survey Department (GSD) under the Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development-Zambiaproudly launched its Digital Archives Platform at Taj Pamodzi, Lusaka.
For the first time, Zambia’s rich geological data is:
✅ Digital – preserved in secure online archives
✅ Accessible – pay online and download directly
The platform is available at https://gsd.gov.zm/ Development included collaboration between KoBold Metals and subcontracted BongoHive. Payments are facilitated by Smart Zambia, with the platform hosted on Paratus Zambia.
From now on, every survey handed over to government will be uploaded and made accessible through this platform, creating a one-stop hub for exploration and mining data.
