Today I’ve been reading reports on Atrazine, the w**d killer used in maize and sugarcane farms, and my heart is heavy. The data is clear. This chemical is flowing freely in our rivers and soils.

A Kenyan study by Okonji et al. found Atrazine levels in Mbagathi River ranging from 0.22 to 3.56 micrograms per litre, shooting up to 76 micrograms downstream of a flower farm. Another study published in Environmental Science Europe confirmed Atrazine residues in rivers, sediments, and aquatic life across Western Kenya.

If it can be traced many kilometers from the farms, imagine what remains where it was sprayed. What happens to the farmer who handles it daily? What about the soil that grows our food? What about the maize, vegetables, and milk that end up on our tables?

Atrazine is not a simple herbicide. It disrupts hormones, affects fertility, and is linked to cancers. It kills the living organisms that keep our soil healthy. It seeps into the water our livestock drink. It doesn’t disappear. It moves. It stays. It accumulates.

Farmers, this should worry you. These chemicals will kill you slowly. Protect yourself, your workers, and your land.
