We have received the passing on of former Children's News Agency member Mwiche Kaona with a great sense of shock.

Mwiche was a great leader who had more in store for her and Zambia πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡² as a whole.

This loss is painful, unexpected.

She will still be remembered for the works she did with various leaders in Zambia and from other parts of the world.

We pray God comforts her family, CNA members and other friends.

May her soul rest in peace.

in 2008, πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡² ratified the Charter and submitted both the first initial report and the first periodic report to the ACERWC. The consideration of its first periodic report was done in October 2024.

In its concluding observations and recommendations, the committee commended Zambia for taking the following measures to improve the situation of children in the country:

The promulgation of the Children’s Code Act No. 12 of 2022 and efforts to harmonise related legislation, including the Anti-Human Trafficking (Amendment) Act No. 16 of 2022, Marriage Amendment Bill 2023, among other amendments;

The introduction of the Free Education Policy (2022) which has led to increased school enrolment, as well as the proactive efforts to address resulting challenges through community-driven initiatives to produce desks and build additional classrooms;

The implementation of social protection programs, including social cash transfers for child-headed households, benefiting over 2.2 million children, with special assistance for girls to continue their education;

The recruitment of over 15,000 health workers to address workforce shortages, and the increased Constituency Development Fund allocations for community projects, including the establishment of health facilities; and

The inclusion of children in the development of the report and the incorporation of their views in the report.
