Government cuts power connection fees from over K4,800 to K300

Energy Minister Makozo Chikote has announced that electricity connection fees will be subsidized and reduced from K4,846 to K300, effective December 22, 2025.

Speaking during the Rural Electrification Authority -REA- launch of the Accelerated Sustainable and Clean Energy Access Transformation –ASCENT- initiative in Lusaka this morning, Mr. Chikote says the 2026 application window for the subsidy targets 100,000 new connection fees next year alone.

Mr. Chikote has however instructed REA and ZESCO to ensure the initiative is widely publicized, assuring government's commitment to ensuring universal access to electricity by 2030.

He notes that the $200 million World Bank funded Ascent-Zambia program aims to connect over 1.6 million Zambians to electricity and clean cooking technologies over the next 5 years.

At the same event, World Bank Country Manager Dr. Achim Fock said the initiative brings together the World Bank group, the African Development Bank and other partners to support sub-Saharan African countries in providing access to electricity to 300 million people.

Meanwhile, REA Acting Chief Executive Officer Alex Mumba commended government for championing policy and financing reforms that made the program possible.

AVIATOR AND GAMBLING. (Part 6)

HOW TO STOP/HEAL FROM GAMBLING DISORDERS.

Overcoming an addiction to Aviator or any gambling game takes courage, honesty, and consistent action. Here's a clear and practical approach:

1. Admit the Problem

Be honest with yourself: "I’m losing control over this game."

Understand it’s not just about money — it’s the cycle of thrill, escape, and regret that keeps you hooked.

2. Block Access

1. Delete betting apps and accounts.
2. Use apps or browser extensions that block gambling sites (e.g., Gamban, BetBlocker).
3. Ask your betting platform to self-exclude you (many offer this feature).

3. Identify Your Triggers

Ask: When do I feel the urge to play? (Bored? Stressed? Lonely? After seeing others win?)

Replace those moments with healthier alternatives: walking, calling a friend, journaling, reading, prayer, etc.

4. Set Boundaries

1. Set strict time and money limits.
2. Never bet with borrowed money.
3. Use a trusted friend or family member to help hold you accountable.
4. But the best path is usually complete withdrawal, at least until you’ve rebuilt control.

5. Talk to Someone

Open up to someone you trust — a friend, mentor, or pastor.

Join a support group: Online or local Gamblers Anonymous or Christian recovery groups.

6. Fill the Void

Gambling fills a space — find something healthy to replace it:

1. Exercise
2. Serving in church or community
3. Learning a skill or hobby
4. Spending time with people who uplift you

7. Get Professional Help (If Needed)

A counselor or therapist trained in addiction can help you deal with underlying emotions and triggers.

There are also faith-based counselors who mix biblical wisdom with recovery steps.

8. Pray and Lean on God
If you're a person of faith:

Ask God to help you break the chains of addiction.

Pray for strength, wisdom, and healing.

Meditate on verses like 1 Corinthians 10:13 or 2 Timothy 1:7.

9. Celebrate Wins, Even Small Ones

If you go a day or a week without playing
