Applications of GIS and Remote Sensing in Disaster Risk Reduction with Google Earth Engine (1800Hrs-2000Hrs: ONLINE Using Google Meets)
Learning outcomes:
This module is designed for geospatial scientists who use GIS for basic geospatial data analysis to come up with products that can be used by decision makers using a cloud processing platform – the Google Earth Engine (GEE). The course provides you with all the skills to process satellite imagery in GEE and export the products to your Google drive. After the course, you will be able to implement PRACTICAL, real-life spatial geospatial analysis, and tasks with the Big Data on the cloud.
Curriculum
Day 1: Introduction to Google Earth Engine Saturday 1 July 2023:
• Sign-up for Google Earth Engine (1 Week before classes start)
• Introduction to Google Earth Engine
• Earth Engine Basics
• Working with Image Collections
• Practical: Accessing and processing different image collections in GEE.
Day 2: GEE for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Sunday 2 July 2023
• Practical : Mapping Floods Using Sentinel Imagery
Day 3: GEE for DRR Monday 3 July 2023
• Mapping droughts for drought monitoring
One important part of the course is the practical exercises. You will be given some precise instructions, codes, and datasets to create for geospatial analysis in Google Earth Engine.
Pricing is 30USD for the 3 days, with a maximum of 10 participants for the class. Participants should have a GEE account, a stable internet connection and a PC with a web browser. Certificate of completion at the end of the course.
