Cyber Crime

The advent of social media has resulted in higher rates of cyber crime. This aspect of the law was previously ungoverned in Zimbabwe as there was no dedicated legislation to cover it. Consequently crime was rampant online, ranging from common cases such as harassment and identity theft (what we might know socially as ghost profiles) to more serious crimes such as online credit card fraud.

It is pleasing to note that we now have a new Act in Zimbabwe, dedicated to cyber crime, which recognises 13 different offences. Join us this week as we look at each of these offences and how they might have affected you.

Constitution of Zimbabwe Amendment Act 20 of 2013

Subsection 1, of the 48th Section of the constitution,found in Part 2 of Chapter 4 (Declaration of Rights) reads-
