Physiotherapists are currently using radial shockwave therapy to treat chronic injuries in conjunction with a comprehensive treatment plan that includes strengthening, neuromuscular control, and stretching that is individually tailored for return to sport or activity.

Shockwave is not a treatment in and of itself. Proper physiotherapy care entails determining the cause of a patient's tennis elbow, calcification, or other conditions and treating the cause to reduce the likelihood of reinjury or recurrence. Typical shockwave treatment consists of three to five shockwave sessions separated by one week, followed by physiotherapy sessions to treat the underlying cause of the injury by retraining body mechanics, building strength and balance, stretching, and ensuring a safe return to sport or activity.
