When Renascent alumni, Jesse found hope in recovery, he decided to pursue a career in addictions and mental health. Today, nearly three and a half years into recovery, he’s rebuilding his relationships with family and creating a future filled with hope, purpose, and connection.

He’s building a future he once couldn’t imagine.

“I actually want to live my life now.” After years of trauma, loss, and addiction, Cynthia found peace in recovery. These days, she’s focussed on mending relationships, addressing her wellbeing, taking care of her health – and learning to let the right people in while building a life she wants to live.

She regularly attends AA and CA meetings and is working with a sponsor. With support from her doctor, she’s also beginning to address long-standing trauma.

“For the first time, I’m dealing with the emotional part of my life,” she says. “Before, drugs and alcohol did that for me.” Eager to give back, she also volunteers in her community.

She’s reconnecting with life’s simple joys too. “I recently bought roller skates,” she shares.

“Roller skating is one of very few positive memories I have from childhood.” This summer, she plans to spend time at the beach, swimming at her community centre, camping with a new friend and enjoying time outdoors with her daughter.
