"Bend your knees"
"Don't lift with your back"
🙋🏻 We've heard this before. But how do we do this?
Core muscles (that attach directly onto your spine) help to protect your back from external forces pulling your spine in different directions. They act to control movement in your spine.
While it is not always possible to bend and lift with your legs (ie: squat), it is essential to ENGAGE your core muscles to prevent excess load/shear on your spine.
HIP HINGE/bend at your waist (not your back) and use your glutes to do the lifting! This will help to keep your back straight.
